Eleonora Maersk disembarks 200 migrants in Italy

The mega container vessel Eleonora Maersk has respected the request of more than 200 migrants and took them to Italy.
Last Thursday, the Malta’s Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) received information for a fishing boat with over 200 people on board in distress. The signal came 285 miles southeast of Malta.
The nearest vessel to the scene, Eleonora Maersk, was headed to inspect the situation. Having considered the deteriorating weather conditions, the migrants were taken on board the container ship.
Initially, Eleonora Maersk headed towards Malta, but the migrants refused to disembark there and requested to be taken to Italy. Sources confirmed that the migrants have already been taken to Italy.
Eleonora Maersk (IMO number 9321500 and MMSI 220477000) was built in 2007 and is registered in Denmark. The 158,200-DWT vessel has a capacity of 11,000 TEU.
