Crane Collapses, Causes Explosion in Istanbul Storm



In yesterday's heavy thunderstorm and sleet hit the Port Of Haydarpaşa where one gantry crane and 6 mobile cranes collapsed and made the port inoperable.
The General Directorate of State Railways of Turkey (TCDD), who owns and operates the port, announced that a person in the fire was wounded by overturning of cranes on containers containing chemical substances in Haydarpaşa Liman Quay due to excessive rainfall and storm that occurred in Istanbul.
General Directorate of State Railways said in announceent that  one of the 4 cranes from the harbor, 4 of the 9 mobile cranes in container handling area and about 100 containers were damaged, where cranes collapsed over containers containing chemicals caused a fire. The fire reported to have been extinguished in a short time.
One customs officer was injured and reported to be treated at Numune Hospital.
