CRANE OPERATOR LONDON THAMESPORT


London Thamesport (LTP) is located in the heart of South East England and is one of the UK’s busiest container and general cargo ports, a member of the Hutchison Port Holdings Group, LTP regularly welcomes new vessels and is diversifying to accommodate varied cargoes.
With further investment anticipated; we are looking to recruit three Quay Crane Operators to support shipside operations within the port. This role is for a fixed term contract of one year.
Key Requirements
These include:
  • To operate all models of ship to shore cranes, subject to appropriate familiarisation and to load and unload containers and cargoes on vessels as determined by the computerised sequencing and stowage plans provided.
  • Fully and appropriately utilise computer technology of the cranes to maximise productivity safely.
  • Comply with the provisions of the Safe Code of Practice for Container Operations, Shipside Operations, Crane Operating Handbooks and any other applicable documentation as provided.
  • To carry out checking duties as required.
  • Perform daily running checks (as per Standard Operating Procedures).
  • Maintain own knowledge of relevant Health and Safety policies and procedures and ensure own working practices, and those of others, are in accordance with them.
  • Report any accidents/incidents to Control IMMEDIATELY, and preserve the scene of the incident for thorough investigation.
  • When required, work from the CTS frames/headblock as banksman.
  • Undertake all aspects of rigging/twistlock duties subject to holding the appropriate active competency as required.
  • Ensure compliance to all policies, standard operating procedures and safe working practices that maybe in existence.
  • Ensure riggers are called and in attendance as per Safe Code Of Practice.
  • As directed attend any training identified as beneficial for the role and further development.
  • Participate fully in all initiatives designed to improve productivity, safety, working practices, such as working parties and pre-vessel meetings.
Who we are looking for?
Suitable applicants will have:
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of a port environment and Ship to Shore Gantry Crane operation.
  • Previous training/experience in Shipboard Rigging.
  • Aware of Port Health and Safety requirements.
  • The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

ENVIRONMENTAL ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS ADVISOR (18 MONTH FIXED TERM CONTRACT)

Position:
Environmental Projects Advisor (18 month fixed term contract)
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Environmental Projects Advisor to work for DP World London Gateway on both the Logistics Park and Port Operation, assisting the Environment team during a period of Maternity leave.
The purpose of the position is to support the management and co-ordination of multi-disciplinary environmental projects that are required in order for DP World London Gateway to meet its environmental obligations and regulatory requirements for both construction and operations. Projects include ecological monitoring and management, marine environmental surveys, contaminated land management, construction environmental management and archaeology.
Other key elements of the role include providing environmental advice to the various functions of the business to ensure that compliance with environmental requirements is achieved and to meet DP World global sustainability objectives. As well as promoting environmental best practice and continuous improvement across the DP World London Gateway Logistics Park and Port during construction and operations.
Requirements:
Key Responsibilities
  • To manage or co-ordinate assigned environmental projects that are required in order for DP World London Gateway to meet its environmental obligations and regulatory requirements for both construction and operations. Co-ordinate, as required, with key regulatory and other stakeholders.
  • To prepare scopes of work and requests for quotations from Consultants and Contractors required to deliver the requirements of the environmental programme.
  • To manage and co-ordinate works within agreed scopes, timelines and budgets.
  • To support the Environment Manager in monitoring project expenditure, adhering to budgets and identifying cost saving initiatives for the Environment Team.
  • Be fully conversant with the requirements of DP World London Gateway’s planning consents and track compliance with the provisions of these for key areas of responsibility.
  • Support the ESMS Audit and Inspection Programme and successful close-out of actions and issues.
  • Assist with the development of Emergency Control Procedures that have environmental aspects.
  • Provide environmental advice in regards to any incidents that occur on the Port or Park and assisting with coordination of Emergency Plans and Exercises.
  • Contribute to the implementation of Regional and Global Environmental initiatives at DP World London Gateway.
  • Attend and contribute to successful Ecological Advisory Group (EAG) meetings, which are a critical component of DP World London Gateway’s compliance monitoring programme.
  • Provide input to the tendering of goods and services at DP World London Gateway, ensuring that environmental content is included and assessed in procurement process, in accordance with the DP World London Gateway Procurement Policy.
  • The above outlined responsibilities are not exhaustive and you may be required to carry out other tasks that are appropriate to your role in addition to these.
Qualifications, skills and Experience Required:
  • Experience working in the field of environmental science, ecology, environmental management or environmental engineering;
  • Understanding of environmental regulations;
  • Practical and ability to manage high workloads contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of the department;
  • Demonstrable success in managing and ensuring delivery of assigned tasks/projects;
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing and communications skills;
  • Strong report writing skills;
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organisation skills;
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, flexible attitude, good organisational skills, eye for detail;
  • Excellent influencing skills to persuade others to comply with systems;
  • Take ownership of work as well as a displaying a willing and 'hands on' work approach, make suggestions and get involved in various projects;
  • Experience managing environmental works to support development and construction projects, with site based experience;
  • Experience working within multi-disciplinary project teams;
  • Experience preparing and reviewing technical reports and communicating these clearly and concisely to non-specialist staff and third parties;
  • Experience taking a leading role in management or co-ordination of projects, financial tracking and delivery of projects within challenging timescales.

The Port of Felixstowe is Britain's biggest and busiest container port, and one of the largest in Europe. The port handles over 4 million TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) and welcomes over 4,000 ships each year, including the largest container vessels afloat today. 
Container Operations is our core business where we receive vessels and load and discharge containers. We also offer our customers excellent Rail Operations, Examination facilities and Roll-On, Roll-Off facility.
