Korean Terminal Invests Further in Stopping Truck Lifts


NewPort at Sun Kwang Container Terminal (SNCT) in Incheon, South Korea, has installed six more truck lifting prevention systems on its rail-mounted gantry (RMG) cranes.

The LaseTLP system by LASE GmbH, a specialist in hardware and applied software in the field of laser measurement technology, allows the automated Asian port hub to utilize highly accurate 2D-Laser scanners.
NewPort SNCT will use LaseTLP in its truck lanes to detect truck liftings, which occur when a container twistlock locks or jams before a truck lift begins (shown in the video below).


By Q2, the total number of LaseTLP systems in the terminal will rise to 28 as it will deploy another 14 units.
In June 2016, SNCT opened New Port after six years of preparation.
SNCT's 800-metre-long quay covers an area of 480,000 ㎡ and has 36,390 TEU of stacking capacity, with an automated system that allows it to handle more than 1.2 million TEUs per annum.

It chose to mount two 2D-Laser scanners out of the LASE 2000D-11x Series on the side of the gantry with a vertical scan plane.
This ensured that there would be no difficulties when measuring above or through a fence with a height of one metre.

The mounting position of both laser scanners is in the middle of the crane at a height of 1.5 metres facing the truck lane

Lase has stated that the advantage of LaseTLP is its fast trailer lift detection.
Other methods use horizontal scan planes, which detect whether the wheels have lifted up.
However, one connected twistlock makes it possible to lift a truck cabin four metres in the air before the wheels leave the ground.
