Could You be a Port Crane Operator?



Hutchison Ports Thailand has released a new video showing how a crane operator uses a remote operating station.



Sensors and laser scanning data helps an operator to take control of the huge machines, allowing them to easily move a container from a control centre with a ship-to-shore or rubber-tyred gantry crane.

Hutchison also gives examples of the safety procedures operators should follow when stacking containers.

These include keeping to maximum height and safety path and the use of scanning data to identify a twistlock release error. 

ABB’s Remote Crane Operator Stories series recently focused on the professional lives of three operators from two fully automated terminals of Long Beach Container Terminal (LBCT) in California and Maasvlakte II in the Netherlands.
