PORT OPERATIVE VACENCIES AROUND THE UK


Applicants are invited to apply for the above vacancy within the Operations Department, based at the Port of Liverpool.
These are full, flexible roles. These positions will require day, night and weekend working.
Role Purpose: To work within a team to carry out operations efficiently, effectively and in a safe manner. To ensure the on-time delivery of planned activity, continuous flow of productivity and high customer satisfaction levels.
Initially trained as a Shiphand (Labourer), with expectation to progress into other roles, including:
-Tug Driver - Quayside 
-Fork Lift Truck Driver 
-Hatch Clerk 
-Straddle Carrier Operator 
-Gantry Crane Operator
Required Experience
Applicants interested in this role should ideally possess the following skills and experience:
-Demonstrate honesty and integrity in all aspects of the job 
-Willingness to work shifts 
-Able to understand and accurately follow management instructions and procedures 
-Good verbal communication skills 
-Good numeracy and literacy skills 
-Must hold a full current Driving Licence 
-Able to understand and use supplied IT equipment and systems

ABP are looking for committed and reliable individuals to join the Operations Department of the Humber region to help support the safe, efficient and successful running of its ports.
You will be a proactive and safety conscious individual who will work with multiple cargo types, plant and machinery to agreed targets and deadlines. Following a period of initial training you will undertake day-to-day operational activities that could include:
  • Cleaning (including industrial)
  • General Stevedoring
  • Stevedoring Cape Vessels
  • Weighbridge / Gatehouse
  • Tug Driving (landside)
  • Hopper Driving
  • Fork Lift Truck (up to 7.5t fork attachment)
This is a great opportunity to develop your career within ABP. As an ABP employee you will receive hands-on training to develop your skills and knowledge in port operations and compliance. This will equip you to operate plant and equipment (including pre-start checks), during vessel loading /discharging and cargo storage operations.
Essential Requirements
  • Pro-active attitude to Health and Safety and a willingness to contribute to/improve Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Experience of working in a busy & fast paced environment with the ability to work towards set targets.
  • Strong team working abilities and a can-do attitude.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Full UK driving license (car or motorbike) and ideally, will have own transport.
Desirable Requirements
  • A willingness to attain Port Operations to NVQ level 2/3 or equivalent.
  • Numeracy and Literacy skills.
  • Ability to navigate IT equipment e.g. smart phone, hand held terminals etc.
  • Previous experience of contributing to Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Experience of operating plant and equipment in a similar industrial environment (Cranedriving and Cargo Lashing would be particularly advantageous).
General Information
We expect the role-holder to be able to work at other terminals and ports within the Humber region (Hull, Goole, Grimsby, Immingham) to ensure adequate cover at all times.
Cleaning of equipment and site and assisting in various other port duties some of which may be of a physical nature and may include working at height.

Accountabilities:
  • Vehicle driving and other duties associated with vessel loading / discharge operations.
  • Monitoring and maintaining work practices with particular focus on Health & Safety.
  • Ensure customer and manufacturers requirements are maintained on both quality and standards.
  • Keep updated on light / heavy lashing standards as required.
  • Support your Leading Hand and the Management Team in achieving operational key performance indicators.
  • When required, participate in the investigation of accidents, training programmes and the achievement of Health &
  • Safety performance targets.

The Port of Felixstowe is Britain's biggest and busiest container port, and one of the largest in Europe. The port handles over 4 million TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) and welcomes over 4,000 ships each year, including the largest container vessels afloat today. 
Container Operations is our core business where we receive vessels and load and discharge containers. We also offer our customers excellent Rail Operations, Examination facilities and Roll-On, Roll-Off facility. 
To support the continued growth of the business we are looking to recruit a number of Port Operatives to drive our internal movement vehicles (IMV) transporting containers to different areas across the Port.
