A new video shows the effect of Konecranes equipment is having on the Long Beach Container Terminal’s (LBCT) attempts to increase efficiency while cut emissions.
The job of horizontal transport between quay-side and the container stacks is undertaken by over 50 Konecranes Gottwald Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs).
It is a complete system that includes transponder navigation and an interchange and fence control safety function.
The battery-powered, eco-efficient work continuously in all weather. The increase productivity while minimising the threat of gridlock - and over 700 have been delivered worldwide since 1991.

The AGV and its navigational systems were invented and developed in-house by Konecranes. To avoid accidents and gridlock, the LBCT uses a control system built by TBA, which manages travel orders and optimises routes.
Joshua Johnson, Manager of Operations Development at LBCT, commented: “We definitely trust this system every day.
“We’re very confident when we send a guy out in the field, we know it is going to dock, that AGVs aren’t going to run through walls, they’re not going to crash into each other.
“We are very confident in this system and have moved hundreds of thousands of containers through it”.
