FELIXSTOWE RETURN SPARKS HOPE

DEC 12, 2018 | INDUSTRY NEWS

Felixstowe has seen the return of previously lost carrier business recently, with Hapag Lloyd and OOCL committing their Euro Mediterranean EMX service back to the port, according to the loadstar.
The EMX service is due to return on December 23rd, with the arrival of the Heron Hunter, and the news is hopefully a sign that the port is about to return towards improved operational times after a disastrous 2018.
UK businesses have witnessed a small reduction in the loading and unloading times of late, which may be reflective of the peak season nearing its close rather than any improvements in systems and procedures.
The 2018 retail peak season has been majorly disrupted due largely to port congestion and capabilities, which reportedly started at Felixstowe. The port introduced a new operating system in June which increased their loading and unloading turnaround times dramatically and caused a number of carriers to move services to other ports.
