Big container ships collision in Busan, serious damages



Panamax container ship SAFMARINE NOKWANDA struck Neopanamax container ship TIANJIN while berthing at Busan Container Terminal at around 0800 LT Mar 2. SAFMARINE NOKWANDA struck TIANJIN stern, inflicting serious cargo damages, with a number of container crushed and collapsed. Stern sustained structural damages. SAFMARINE NOKWANDA bow also suffered damages including breach, see photo. At the time of collision, TIANJIN was moored, SAFMARINE NOKWANDA was technically, under way.
Container ship TIANJIN, IMO 9398462, dwt 114044, capacity 10070 TEU, built 2010, flag Liberia, owner ZIM.
Container ship SAFMARINE NOKWANDA, IMO 9294393, dwt 50624, capacity 5057 TEU, built 2005, flag HK, owner Maersk Line A/S (Safmarine A/S).
