Kuenz to Deliver First Freerider Units

Kuenz, a provider of container handling solutions, has announced that the first of its Freerider units will soon enter operations at Kloosterboer’s Container Terminal in Vlissingen, the Netherlands.

The newly designed rubber-tyred gantry crane (RTG), which was presented in 2018, is expected to meet a demand for more efficient container handling operations.
As a result, Kloosterboer Vlissingen B.V. has decided to award Kuenz a contract for the delivery of four Freerider units, all of which will be equipped with a high degree of automation.

According to a statement, the first phase of the delivery will commence in September 2019, covering the transport, installation and testing of the first crane, as well as tasks for the remote operation.
Phase two will then see the delivery of the last three cranes in November 2019 and January 2020, while a final handover is planned for May-June 2020.

Featuring the hoist system SPIDER, said to be the most advanced hoisting gear concept on the market, as well as a more aerodynamic gantry structure, the RTG allows for significantly higher travel speeds even with fully loaded containers.
In addition to this, the operating system One Hand enables easy and intuitive operation using only one hand and ensures safe container handling.

With Kuenz’ automation options, truck unloading and loading during the day can be conducted in semi-automated mode. At night, Kloosterboer Vlissingen will handle the housekeeping in fully automated operation.
Kloosterboer is described as a Western European leader in logistics services for temperature-controlled food products, achieving a throughput of 4.5 million tons.
