MAKING ABP HUMBER A GREAT PLACE TO WORK

New television screens have been installed across ABP’s Humber ports to display versions of ‘ABP TV’ for employees. The project is part of an initiative to ensure that employees of the port operator are kept well informed about everything that is going on in the business.

With staff working across a large area spanning the four ports and many terminals it can be a challenge to keep everyone informed about latest developments. However, ABP views making the company a great place to work a fundamental part of their vision and efficient communication is at the heart of achieving this.

For over a year the company has been using a regular TV news bulletin sent out via email to help keep colleagues informed. The bulletins talk about issues such as health and safety, commercial stories as well as upcoming events and colleague news. Employees from across the company are given the chance to guest present and get involved, as well as be interviewed to talk about the work that they do and share their experiences.

Now TV screens have been placed around the ports estates to give ABP’s active staff on the frontline a chance to see the regular bulletins. The screens are also used to show videos and as electronic noticeboards to tell people about upcoming training, as well as travel information, tide times and the weather.

ABP TV’s content has also recently been expanded to include roving reporters, to make the programme more interactive and better highlight the role colleagues are playing across the business.

ABP Humber Director Simon Bird said “It’s hugely important that all of our colleagues have the chance to be kept informed and also to get involved in talking about what they do. The ABP TV initiative is proving very popular with colleagues, not just because of the news but because it gives them an opportunity to be part of the experience.

“We pride ourselves on being a great place to work and keeping colleagues in the know is a big part of making that a reality.”

The most recent edition of ABP TV was used to launch the company’s new energy saving initiative.
