From a friend with apparent "connections", we're made to understand that a container/chassis/tractor combination "went up" this afternoon at the semi-automated Virginia International Gateway (VIG) terminal in Portsmouth.






From a friend with apparent "connections", we're made to understand that a container/chassis/tractor combination "went up" this afternoon at the semi-automated Virginia International Gateway (VIG) terminal in Portsmouth.

These events occur when someone (typically the over the road truckman) fails to completely disengage all four of the twist locks which secure the container to the road chassis.

The combined rig goes up.... and the chassis (and the fifth wheel-connected tractor) ultimately comes down; often with injuries to the tractor's occupant.

Make sure all chassis twist locks are fully and completely released before going under any lifting appliance!
