On December 9th 2019 the APL Mexico City breaks her mooring due to strong winds and drifts towards a container crane. The ship hits the container crane with her bridge which collapses on impact ! There was no one in the crane except some maintenance crew, but they managed to get away safely ! This accident happend in Antwerp Harbor in the Deurganckdok Note : This video isn't ine and i do not own them. If you made this video, please contact me at : shipping@telenet.be

The accident happened around 1.45 p.m. The APL Mexico City container ship had arrived a few hours earlier from Hamburg and had just arrived at container handling company MPET on quay 1742. The strong winds were causing the bunches to break loose and the ship was drifting. Tugboats tried in vain to stop the mastodon. The crew was also unable to control the ship in time. The ship drifted completely to the other side of the dock, after which it crashed into a harbor crane around 2 pm at DP World. The impact of the crane completely collapsed.
Fortunately, there were no operations under the tap at that time. Both container handler DP World and CEPA, the employers' organization for port workers, confirm that there are no injuries. "Currently, Brabo pilots and port authorities are making every effort to get the ship under control," said Kris Thieren, spokeswoman for DP World. “The zone of the accident was evacuated on our quay 1700. The operations have been temporarily suspended, but we are making every effort to be operational again as quickly as possible. ”
The damage is certainly very large. The affected tap completely collapsed and ended up partly in the water. Also at MPET all activities have been suspended for the time being.

due heavy storm , wind , snap the mooring ropes, the vessel drifted too the other side of the quay, coming from MSC terminal to DP World , and collided against a gantry crane, the ships crew could not get controle over the vessel in time , no people injured , due the gantry crane was out of order , due planning maintenance, it just happen after changing shifts from the crane engineers , so luckily nobody near the crane

this happend one hour before the vessel collided with the crane , full loaded containers
