Hutchison Ports introduces a cross-border door-to-port intermodal service in Barcelona

Barcelona Europe South Terminal (BEST)

Hutchison Ports’ BEST terminal, Barcelona, has implemented a cross-border door-to-door intermodal service with the Port of Bayonne in the French region of New Aquitaine.
Through BEST’s logistics operator, Synergy, and the transport company GIMEX in Navarra the two ports have joined forces to offer a new intermodal solution to importers and exporters in the Southwest of France.
Historically specialising in bulk, the Port of Bayonne aims to strengthen its logistics offer by using container transport from/to all over the world through the combined use of rail and maritime services.
BEST and the Port of Bayonne will present the project at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bayonne on February 20, 2020.
The aim is to “take the pulse” of the sector, identify potential future users and adjust the proposal of service offer to the needs of logistics professionals on both sides of the border.
Synergy has experience in intermodal transport by rail, already having a service from BEST to Pamplona with one daily departure and one from BEST to Miranda de Ebro (Burgos) which has four departures per week.
These services have provided customers with direct routes from Barcelona, savings of up to 11 days of maritime transit time and reliability in the face of the current situation of uncertainty that French ports have been experiencing.
