Today marks the retirement of Port of London Authority employee Chris Bright, who is hanging up his life jacket after 54 years on the River Thames. Chris was 15 years old when he joined the PLA in 1966, after being introduced to and captivated by work on the Thames. Chris progressed through the ranks: deckhand, leading deckhand, mate and three different grades of master, and then became the youngest class 1 skipper at the time. His final command is PLA's London Titan. Peter Steen, PLA marine operations director: “Chris has been a font of knowledge for decades, helping a succession of marine officers better understand salvage operations on the Thames....We will all miss his knowledge, humour and undoubted charm.” hashtagportoflondon hashtaglondon hashtagretirement hashtagriverthames hashtagthames
