The Chief Operating Officer of DP World has said that the global port operator is under 'no pressure' from the Dubai government to sell its assets for debt repayments.

"There is no pressure from Dubai to sell assets. We are not compelled to do anything," Anil Wats told a conference in Dubai on Sunday, ReutersDubai reports.

DP World said last year that it planned to sell its Australian operations to private equity firm Citi Infrastructure Investors (CII) in a deal worth US$1.5 billion in an effort to reduce its debts.

"This was a business decision," Wats said.
