Vintage celebration for Turkon

Felixstowe, UK-based Turkon Line celebrated its 10th anniversary in some style with a long night on the tiles at a local hostelry, giving ample time to reflect on the UK arm’s success since founding MD Deniz Hara’s lonely arrival at Felixstowe Station on a Sunday afternoon in 2002.

Turkon has come a long way since Hara’s one-man-band set up 10 years ago and now boasts an efficient operational and commercial shipping operation.

This was evidenced in 2011 when Turkon was the runner-up in Lloyd’s Loading List.com sister publication Containerisation International’sRegional Carrier section of its annual awards. This year Turkon has again been shortlisted for the awards in central London on 18 October.

Turkon now has an estimated 20% share of the UK-north Mediterranean market. As well as serving its core Turkish trade, it has also started making inroads into the Israeli market through its slot charter with Seago.

The company recently completed a "vintage" consignment from a client in Haifa - an old car which Turkon ensured reached its final destination on time and ready to rally!
