  • Phases 3 and 4 of expansion include the build of 15 new berths and a fully automated container yard

PSA Singapore Terminals is planning to invest as much as US$2.9 billion in the development of Phases 3 and 4 of its Pasir Panjang Terminal(PPT).
In a statement, the Singaporean-based terminal operator said that the expansion of the port will include 15 new berths, an automated container yard and unmanned, rail mounted gantry cranes, which along with those installed at the berths, will run on electricity.
The new terminals will feature 6,000 meters of quay and a draft of up to 18 meters to enable the world’s largest ocean carriers to call at PPT.
The project was launched at a ceremony officiated by Singapore’s Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew at the PSA Building earlier today.
When the project is completed in 2020 the terminal will increase Singapore’s total annual container handling capacity to 50 million TEU. PPT has already handled 20.88 million TEU up to and including August this year.
“We are excited to embark on the next stages of development at PPT. It will showcase state-of-the-art technologies that will take our overall capacity, productivity and customer service to new heights,” saidPSA International’s Group CEO, Tan Chong Meng.
“With our continued focus on innovation, PSA will be better positioned to welcome the container vessels of tomorrow.”
