Maritime Transport Open New Portside Logistics Hub at Tilbury


UK – Felixstowe-headquarteredMaritime Transport has opened a new, rail-connected logistics hub at Tilbury, the company’s second new rail freight development in as many years and it’s first move in the planned development of a network of ‘portcentric’ facilities to provide greater support to customers and their international supply chains.
Known as the Portside Logistics Centre, the warehouse features 100,000 sq feet of space and can accommodate secure storage for up to 10,000 pallet spaces, as well as non-palletised goods. In addition, the warehouse has both ground level and dock leveller trailer access for fast loading and transhipment from container to trailer and is directly connected to Maritime's existing Railport operation, facilitating multimodal transport to and from the Port of Tilbury and throughout the UK.
Together with Maritime’s Railport operation - which opened in 2010 and can handle two trains simultaneously and up to nine trains a day, with handling for up to 1,000 loaded and empty containers - and a fleet of a hundred locally-based trucks, Maritime state that they have “…created a unique logistics hub on Fortress Distribution Park and is ideally placed to serve customers using Tilbury as their preferred gateway.”
