Hanjin Shipping Posts Net Loss of $43.3 Million


Hanjin Shipping today reported a net loss of 47.3 billion South Korean won (about US$43.3 million), compared with a net loss of $1.1 million in the previous quarter and a net loss of $78.7 million in the same quarter in 2011.
In the first nine months of 2012, the company posted a net loss of $354.4 million, compared with last year’s net loss of $458.5 million from January to September.
Quarterly container transport volume for 20-foot-equivalent units increased 2.2 percent from the second quarter and 6.2 percent from the third quarter last year. Year-to-date container transport volume was up 6.4 percent year-over-year.
Third-quarter sales were $2.7 billion, an increase of 3.1 percent from the second quarter’s $2.3 billion and a rise of 18.3 percent from last year’s third quarter sales of $2.3 billion. Quarterly container sales were $2.3 billion.
