TWORTY BOX successfully completes sea trials

The prototypes of the ‘Tworty Box’, a new type of ISO container that can be used as a standard 20ft box or coupled with another as a standard 40ft box, have made a successful return maiden voyage from Hamburg to Montreal, having been loaded with 20-tonnes of break-bulk in coupled configuration on board OOCL's container vessel "OOCL Montreal".
The unit was developed to reduce the shipment of 'containerised air', to significantly decrease the costly empty positioning often caused by the imbalanced supply and demand of containers.  Its outside appearance resembles any standard 20ft container; however, each unit has doors at each end that can be fixed to the container ceiling and another joined up, thereby creating a 40ft unit with standard doors at both ends.
The prototypes have received full CSC certification for single as well as for coupled operation.
