DFDS continued progress in Q3

DFDS was in the third quarter pre-tax profit of DKK 307 million against DKK 272 million in the same quarter in 2012. Revenue increased in the quarter from DKK 3.17 billion to DKK 3.34 billion in the same period last year.
" We are pleased with the improved performance in light of the continued weak growth in most northern European markets and generally fierce price competition. We therefore maintain focus on our efficiency and improvement projects that are helping to create prosperity . The profit forecast for the full year is maintained and lower investment increase cash flow , "says CEO Niels Smedegaard.
The surplus in the third quarter after tax was DKK 293 million against DKK 250 million in the same quarter in 2012 , an increase of 17.2 percent .

The company had in the first nine months a profit after tax of DKK 249 million against 143 million in the period in 2012. Revenue for the three quarters rose from DKK 8.8 billion in 2012 to DKK 9.1 billion in 2013.

The increase in profit before tax of 13 percent was driven by higher volumes in the North Sea and higher earnings from passenger Amsterdam-Newcastle route . The results for the other shipping activities were lower , primarily due to declining demand in the Russian freight market and a continuing precarious competitive position in the Channel.

The result for the transport and logistics activities were generally in line with last year.

The forecast for 2013, which was increased in March , remains an EBITDA of 1.1 to 1.3 billion before special items. Investments for the year is expected to be DKK 150 million lower as a result of delayed delivery of a new building .
