Maersk ship due for Felixstowe goes to Gateway

The Maersk Line ship Nedlloyd Drake, originally scheduled for Felixstowe, is instead calling at London Gateway, prompting fears about a change of UK port of call

There must be massive congestion at all UK ports or does London Gateway ignore wind speed safety equipment on their ship to shore cranes.

All major Ports in Europe stop for Wind / Waether

Good morning,

Please be advised that the situation is still the same as mentioned in last update. This means the quay-side operation is stopped, except for our barge-crane. Landside operation is still operational.

Good evening.

Please be advised that we have ceased Quay-side operations due to high winds. The only exception for now is our barge-crane, which is less affected due to it’s lower height.

  1. It looks like a change of destination due to the christmas and new year period. Not sure why the change as Felixstowe was able to take her along side so maybe wind was a factor

    1. The whole of northern Europe is shut for wind !!!!! not just Felixstowe. Some people just love to knock the dock. If you think it is safe please feel free to climb 100 foot up a crane and operate this beast with around 20 fellow Dockers under your feet.

    2. It does not matter how rich DP World or HPH is………..you cannot work in these extreme weather conditions. And to be honest if they are a good employer there should not be a problem.

  2. Good luck to them. They will learn the hard way. Which usually is at the risk of a quay worker. If they can operate them cranes in this wind then I take my hat off to them.

  3. LG stopped quayside ops around noon on Monday but the automated stacks landside continued working uninterupted

  4. Maersk pre-planned the vessel diversions way back in November, AE2, AE6 and AE7 all omitted Felixstowe in week 52, Maersk also omitted other European Ports as detailed here

The weather was not a factor, unless Maersk have a direct line to the weather gods!
