Storm-damaged Maersk Stepnica in Felixstowe


8,750 TEU Maersk Stepnica has been diverted from her regular run into Felixstowe so that salvage can be carried out on stacks of containers badly damaged as she was passing through a storm.

    2. That stack was fine, but what made me laugh was the safety officer on the quay aloud the bloke in the yellow jacket to go in that frame without a safety harness on!! And only one of the them in the frame was attached to the frames sarler block. And to rub it in the crane wasn't in its safety mode to carry personnel.

  2. Is it just me not looking at this picture right, or centre stack was 9 high? No wonder it has collapsed.

    1. Nine high stacking is perfectly normal aft of the bridge with empties, Maersk do it all the time these days. Several of their vessels have had the whole bridge structure jacked up three decks to allow them to stack higher on deck.
      In recent years the mean weight of boxes has dropped, TV's and white goods are getting lighter but still take up the same volume so many ships can now stack higher and not be overloaded or alter their centre of gravity.
