Petition Handed in to Downing Street by FairFuel UK Campaign
UK – The FairFuel UK campaign, backed by various logistics interests such as the Road Haulage Association (RHA) and the Freight Transport Association (FTA) has dealt the next blow in its fight to reduce the cost of fuel for hauliers and private motorists today by presenting a petition to Downing Street calling for a 3p cut in Fuel Duty. The petition was handed in by motoring journalist, Quentin Wilson together with Rob Flello MP Labour Member for Stoke-on-Trent South and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Freight Transport.
Fuel duty accounts for 60% of the price paid by consumers for fuel. The FairFuel UK Campaign has consistently called for a decrease in duty paid and demanded that the Government launch inquiries into fuel price transparency. Rob Flello, commented:
“The Chancellor needs to put forward a budget which will help individuals and businesses. A cut in fuel duty would bring welcome relief to many who are struggling to with rising energy costs. The wide spread support the Fair Fuel UK campaign has gained from businesses and the public demonstrates the strength of feeling that the issue generates. As a Member of Parliament I am going to continue to press the Government to take action on this issue. The current fuel duty system is not sustainable and while a 3p cut in duty will help people immediately, the Government must take radical action to reform the system for the future.”
