Fire onboard Cosco Pride extinguished by crew


Fire erupted on board Cosco Pride early on Sunday morning. The ship was in the lower Elbe (Brunsbuettel area) en route to the North Seawhen the duty officer noticed thick smoke coming from an open container located in the aft section.
Hermann Helms (MMSI 211202760), a rescue boat, with eight firefighters from the German Society for Sea Rescue (GMRS) was dispatched immediately to the scene. By the time they reached Cosco Pride, the fire had been extinguished by the crew. There were no reports of injuries, the cause of the incident is being investigated. Cosco Pride was inspected for several hours by local authorities and was allowed to continue towards its destination.
Cosco Pride (IMO number 9472153 and MMSI 477764600) is a container ship managed by COSCON. The vessel was built in 2011 and is registered in Hong Kong. The capacity of the 366-meter ship is 13092 TEU and its deadweight is 140,665 DWT.

Early in the morning July 13 fire erupted in one of the containers in the aft section of a boxship COSCO Pride, vessel was in lower Elbe in Brunsbuettel area, proceeding to North Sea. German firefighters quickly arrived to the vessel on board of rescue boat Hermann Helms, but by that time, COSCO Pride crew extinguished fire by own means. Vessel continued voyage.
