CKYHE alliance to have almost 90 big box ships

The CKYHE alliance comprising COSCO, 'K' Line, Yang Ming, Hanjin Shipping, and Evergreen Marine Corp could have 89 very large container ships after 'K' Line placed orders for another five 14,000teu ships on Tuesday.
IHS Maritime's Sea-web data shows COSCO now controls 24 VLCS while 'K' Line has 10 such ships on order.
Yang Ming has 15 ships on order, all placed through tonnage provider Seaspan. Hanjin Shipping controls 19 VLCS, all on charter from Peter Doehle, Danaos, and Seaspan.
Evergreen controls 21 VLCS, all on charter from NS Lemos, Shoei Kisen Kaisha, and Costamare Shipping. In all, the CKYHE alliance would have total capacity of 1,146,224teu of VLCS.
But this pales in comparison to the 2.1M teu of ships that are to be controlled by the planned 2M vessel-sharing arrangement between Maersk Line and Mediterranean Shipping Company, as well as the 1.5M teu of capacity controlled by the recently formed Ocean Three alliance comprising United Arab Shipping Company, China Shipping Container Lines, and CMA CGM.
The G6 Alliance comprising APL, HMM, NYK Line, MOL, OOCL, and Hapag Lloyd now have 910,568teu of giant box ships but they also have a number of post-Panamax box ships that are serving the trans-Pacific route.
