This morning at Hampton Roads, a straddle carrier operator allided with a container crane's spreader on the highline (on dock). The impact almost completely separated the straddle carrier's operator's cab from its mountings (see photo), leaving the operator in a very precarious position.
The accident is under investigation, as to cause.
Fortunately, the operator had the wisdom to be harnesses into his seat. Our understanding is that he's experiencing some shoulder pain, but apart from that is walking and talking in a normal fashion. His foresight in buckling up likely saved his life. For that, we are very grateful.
