Just two weeks after speaking to students at UCS in Ipswich, the Prime Minister has arrived at Felixstowe Docks to tell port workers and local business leaders why he feels they should vote Stay in June’s referendum.
He announced that the government will give £70m to a new Lowestoft crossing. He also said the Ipswich crossing was still under review.
During a question and answer session with port workers he insisted that the Britain should stay in the EU.
In a visit to mark 100 days before the referendum he insisted this was one of the most important decisions people could make – and said the consequences could be with us for the next 50 years.
He insisted that it would be best for the country to remain in a reformed EU, saying those calling for a withdrawal had not made it clear what the alternative would be for the country.
And he also talked about investment in Suffolk.
He said: “Good news for Lowestoft. I can confirm that tomorrow we will be announcing that this £70m investment will be going ahead. I’ve seen for myself, with my own eyes during a visit before the election, just how important this is.
“As for the Wet Dock in Ipswich we’re still looking at that. We’re still hopeful of making progress but I cannot tell you any more about that today.”
His second visit to the county in a fortnight confirms that Number 10 sees Suffolk as “friendly territory” – all the county’s MPs and most of its council leaders have backed the Remain campaign.
