Support dockers at DP World London Gateway

A new terminal operated by global network terminal (GNT) operator DP World has been constructed at the port of London Gateway - workers there need your help to secure a decent CBA.
Since opening in 2013 Unite the union has been campaigning for a collective bargaining agreement for workers there. Why? So that they can negotiate with management on important workplace issues like occupational health and safety, breaks and pay.
Management has made it clear they don’t want this to happen and things have reached a critical point in the campaign. DP World may try to force an unnecessary ballot to try to avoid having to make an agreement.

Dockers need your support at a challenging time that could be a turning point in the campaign. Please do these three things now:
  1. Show London Gateway workers they’re not alone by sending a message of support to Steve Biggs at: uniteatlondongateway@gmail.com             Use this text or draft your own.
  2. Sign up for campaign updates.
  3. Share this page now on social media to spread the word with your own friends and contacts @ITFglobal @unitetheunion #respectatlondongateway #ITFdockers

RE: You are not alone!

Dear brothers and sisters at London Gateway,

We understand you are facing challenging times in your campaign for a collective bargaining agreement at DP World, London Gateway.

We know that you face the possibility of management forcing an unnecessary ballot to try and stop you from achieving your goal and we want you to know that we are standing beside you at this time.

Our message to you is stay strong. Your fight is our fight. As dockers we are united in our struggle to secure fair, safe working conditions and decent jobs in our industry for the future. We must all stand up against the erosion of our rights and the employers’ desire to drag our working conditions to the bottom.

From all x members of xxx union, please know that you have our respect and solidarity.

  1. Are London Gateway workers regarded as Dockers or Multi-Skilled Port Workers?
If their contract is to perform multi-skilled tasks within the dock they would have been made aware of this at the commencement of starting work for DPWorld along with their terms and conditions of employment.
The multi-skilled Port workers of London Gateway Port took the jobs and living of traditional Thames Watermen mooring/unmooring gangs without any consultation or thought.

It is farcical for London Gateway Port Workers & associated Trade Unions to expect fellow port workers to back them now.

  2. Funny how a Union that openly declared they wanted to close us down 3 years ago, now wants to "represent" us... Nothing at all to do with monthly subscriptions!

  3. The sad fact is that London Gateway now pay the going rate for uk port worker, offer better terms and conditions, the management generally do care for the work force and treat them with respect and offer a nice environment to work in.

Probably now the best port to work at! And without unite!

Maybe we should question is unite even fit for purpose? Just remember when they screwed Felixstowe dockers for years on blue and green contracts, same job on half the pay !!! Just remember how much it cost each one of you whilst still paying unite for the privilege.

    Food for thought?

    A bitter retired docker!

  4. The only reason Unite want in at LGW is for the potential rveniue not beacause they care. Just look what they have done for London Thamesport, left out in the cold by our so called caring union even the reps left a sinking ship like rats at the first chance making sure they secured themselves a nice redundancy package and jumped the queue taking the place from others that had wanted to leave.

London gateway be careful what you wish for Unite want your ££££££££££
