Save The British Legion In Felixstowe

Massive thank you to Hills from the dock who came and helped with our spruce up of the British Legion Club last weekend. Notcutts Roses and Bark has all been put in place. Getting there now..all ready for this Sunday 31st..midday to 4pm..Family Fun Day. . . ALL Welcome. Cllr Doreen Savage MBE is kindly coming along to open the event.

I would like to say thank you to the staff who have worked the club over the last few days. Ive attended 2 funerals in the last week and both wakes have been held at the club. The staff have been amazing at both of them. Thursday's was a very busy one with everyone arriving at the club at the same time.
The food was kept in the cellar which had to be brought through and a couple of the regulars going in and bringing it all out. Getting in the staffs way but they were brilliant and couldn't have been more helpful while rushed off their feet. And yesterday's wake again the staff were great And thank you for letting the family carry on in to late afternoon/evening to celebrate Eddies life. So thanks again to u all who worked behind The scenes and the bar to make these 2 send offs perfect for their loved ones.

Would just like to remind all British legion members that Saturday the 6th of August will be my leaving do before I move to sunny Spain! Would love to see you all for one last beer (or maybe a couple) and celebrate the last 8 years from when I started here.
There will be professional entertainment on rather than just me making a fool of myself in the corner lol. This's all starts at 8 so best get in a tad early to get your drinks and seats.
But for any really warriors that want to join the early starters with me and have a few in the afternoon too drop me a message.

All members welcome,

Hope to see you there

The Royal British Legion Club Felixstowe is in a bad place at this time and needs help to not only keep this club open, consequently the Friday night gig for many bands would not be there anymore, and as you guys know it's a great place to play. They have a music day arranged for Saturday August 27th running from 1pm till 7pm then in the club till 11-30. Any band who is willing to come and do an hour spot to help please call me on 01473-610581. You will have to use your own pa but we are doing a one hour turn round so no rush guys. The bands who are kind enough to help will be given a paid gig next year as a thank you. So come on guy's and galls help save this great gig and club......Lots of food available so sure you will get a burger also....Thank You. Sandy.

Felixstowe’s Royal British Legion (RBL) club in Mill Lane has seen its numbers halved since October last year to just over 200 members, posing a threat to its continuation.
Karlene Kennard, who works at the clubhouse, said: “If we don’t get the numbers up and people using the place we’ll have to close it imminently. We cannot sustain the business without people coming through the door.”
Ms Kennard said the club, which has been in operation since the 1930s, was an important part of the community, helping other charities and organisations with free venue hire and support.
She said that while many ex-serviceman got together at the club, it also had lots to offer young people.
“A lot of people think that you have to be ex-forces to join, or that you have to sit on committee meetings, but that’s not how it is,” she added. “We are trying to move forward and create something for the younger generation.”
The club hosts live bands, quiz nights and regular darts and pool tournaments, and is keen to hear of other possible uses.
Ms Kennard said changes to the way in which people signed up to the RBL, which now requires them to go online, had affected membership, but that the club was happy to help anyone interested in joining.
