MARINE TERMINAL WORKER FATALLY INJURED AT LIEPAJA PORT, LATVIA [22 NOVEMBER 2017]

Marine Terminal Worker Fatally Injured at Liepaja Port, Latvia [22 November 2017]
While media reports relating any information about this accident are presently unavailable, Blueoceana Company has learned from friends in Europe that a very young (24 year old) Latvian marine terminal worker was killed in an industrial accident at the Port of Liepaja last Wednesday (22 November).
Our research indicates that the Port of Liepaja, is principally a bulk cargo handling port and that bulk coal export emanating from Liepaja has been increasing in substantial amounts over the last two years. The employer of record (Ekers Stividors, LP) is, we understand, a large volume stevedoring firm at that Baltic Sea port.
In sum, reports coming to us indicate that the injured worker had just exited a dump truck he had clean out when, upon that exit, he was struck by a large Volvo front end loader much like those depicted below; being used elsewhere.
