Bromma warns against cheap spare parts

Bromma claims its genuine twistlocks last longer than copies

Spreader manufacturer Bromma has produced a paper which claims that genuine spare parts outperform cheap copies by more than four times.
The paper, authored by Bromma’s VP marketing Lars Meurling and structural design expert Jerker Lindström, tested twistlocks provided by Bromma’s sub-suppliers against cheap copies.
Twistlock pins are the four devices which attack a crane’s spreader to a container. As they are in direct contact with the container and carry its load, they are subject to fatigue and must be checked regularly.
According to the paper, although it should be noted that the loads applied in the tests conducted are far higher than those seen in real life, “the test shows the relative difference in durability between the original and a copy. The average Bromma twistlock pin outperforms the non-original by more than four times.”
The paper concluded: “The results from this study show that the number of cycles exceeds – despite a higher load than normal – the recommended replacement cycle by far. This is a safety margin that is built into such a critical component to withstand the harsh conditions typically experienced by a spreader. It is the safety margin that comes with Bromma genuine spare parts.”
