In a critical situation, the 28-year-old, who was injured during his work in the port of Limassol, is hospitalized at the General Hospital of Limassol this afternoon.
A spokesman for the police press office told the CNA that the accident occurred around midday, at the port of Limassol and more specifically east of the machinery repair workshop.
The 28-year-old was driving a bridge crane to check whether it was operating properly as it had a mechanical problem. Under conditions explored, the crane led to the ground, causing it to be trapped inside.
In order to unblock it, the Fire Brigade had to intervene. The 28-year-old was transferred to the General Hospital of Limassol.
According to doctors on duty, the 28-year-old has thoracic and kidney injuries and spine, neck, pelvis and lumbar fractures. The 28-year-old is hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the General Hospital of Limassol, in a critical condition.
Police members and Inspector of the Ministry of Labor carried out examinations on the scene of the accident. The case is being investigated by the St. John Police Station.
The Director of EUROGATE Container Terminal Limassol Ltd George Purus, in a written statement, states that "the company acted promptly and took the necessary steps to allow the injured driver to serve at the General Hospital of Limassol and receive the necessary care".
