Our Injured Casual Sister
There was an unfortunate accident on Thursday March 22nd, 2018 the 1st shift actually end of shift at ZIM between two drivers one was badly hurt but she is strong and a fighter. She is a casual and it’s unfortunate that this accident resulted in the loss of a limb ( her left leg). As casuals we don’t get benefits or are able to pick our jobs, so she will be out of work for a long time and it will be awhile before any disability or any other income is received. Her husband will be taking time off to care for her as well. People have expressed concern on how they can help or if they can donate to help our casual sister out, which is why I decided to set this up for the Smith Family. Serious Accident At The Port Of Los Angeles
Word coming to Blueoceana Company a moment ago from a friend at Los Angeles port, would have us understand that a very serious accident occurred near the end of shift yesterday at Berth 94, Wilmington.
In that accident, a female UTR (Yard Tractor) operator had apparently just unhooked from a bomb cart when she was sideswiped by another UTR. We understand that her machine's door was ripped off, and that she suffered such severe injuries to a foot so as to necessitate its removal.
We await the results of the requisite accident investigations before forming any concrete positions, but are deeply saddened nonetheless.
