ZHEN HUA 23
IMO 8414738
**01/03/2008**, Port of Felixstowe, England.

Completed in 1986 by Kasado Zosen, Kudamatsu, Japan (359)
50,285 g.t. and 79,999 dwt, as the OIL TANKER
'Rich Duchess' to 2007 and
'Zhen Hua 23' since.

In 1999 vessel was converted into a semi-submersible heavy lift ship of 37,879 g.t.

The storm force winds caught them all by surprise. all 12 mooring lines broke in short shrift. I seem to recall it was not forecast to be quite 'that' strong! The three new cranes for us were all undamaged! The offending crane onborad the Zhen Hua was not one destined for us, but a special iron ore crane for delivery to Oxelösund, Sweden. No doubt they were looking forward (operationally) to receiving their spanking brand new crane, or they were until I telephoned them that morning to tell the operations director that his new, expensive bit of kit was a write off!

New cranes en route. I took these one Easter way back when the ship with the new cranes broke loose and took out No. 2 crane on what was Landguard Terminal
