Dockers and seafarers encouraged to get interactive in new online space

A new ITF website designed specifically for activists from docker and seafarer unions has gone live.

There are high hopes forwww.dockers-seafarers.org as an online space which encourages future union leaders and active members to share ideas, stories and experiences and to engage with each other via blog and linked Facebook facilities.

The website has a secure area which has been created for participants of the Maritime Roundtable event, taking place in Casablanca in September. This event is the first product of the new focus within the ITF on building maritime union power directly through grass roots activism and on getting input from ground level on the future of ITF maritime campaigning.

Around 200 activists and future union leaders are taking part in the MRT, which boasts a range of high profile speakers including Sharran Burrow, and workshops on everything from the globalisation of the shipping industry to building union power through communications.  As well as those attending, other activists are being encouraged to sign up as virtual participants for the MRT and to take advantage of the chance to have their say on issues that matter to maritime workers and to network via the dockers-seafarers site.

Visit www.dockers-seafarers.org now and find out more about how you can get involved.

Promote this site to union members and get in touch if you have questions about the dockers-seafarers ethos or the MRT event.
