OKPO, SOUTH KOREA, June 13 (Reuters) – Danish oil and shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk will pay about $100 million less than predicted for 20 mega-size container vessels ordered from Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.
The group said it now expects to pay about $185 million on average per vessel, against previous expectations of about $190 million.
Maersk Line, the group’s container shipping unit, ordered the ships, capable of carrying 18,000 20-foot equivalent units (TEU), in 2011.
The first vessel will be named on Friday at a ceremony at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering wharf and is expected to be operational on Asia to Europe routes on June 28.
An additional four vessels will be delivered this year, while the remaining 15 will be delivered in 2014 and 2015. (Reporting by Ole Mikkelsen; Editing by David Holmes)
