13,386-TEU Cosco England newbuilding to join the Asia-Europe trade

COSCO has taken delivery of the 13,386 TEU Cosco England, the third in a series of eight containerships ordered in May 2008 from Nantong Cosco KHI Ship Engineering Co Ltd (NACKS) for US$166.8 million each.

The newbuilding is to be deployed on the CKYH Asia-Europe loop 7 (NE 7) service, and follows the May delivery of the same-size Cosco France.

The vessels are neo-overpanamax units capable of stowing 20 rows of containers on deck (maximum allowed for the two new Panama lock complexes is 19 rows).

A report by Alphaliner said the new 13,386-TEU vessels are being delivered 12 months later than expected as the Lehman crisis postponed their delivery.

NACKS is a joint venture between Cosco and Kawasaki Heavy Industries. In 2008 NACKS built a series of four 9,850-TEU ships for Cosco (Cosco Oceania series).
