In the light of the upcoming ‘Golden Week Holidays’ in China and the expected temporary lull in Chinese exports, many carriers have announced to skip sailings on their main Far East to Europe loops. Voided departures have been announced for the following services so far:

- Maersk Line ‘AE7′ (#8) – void slot ca. 9 October ex Qingdao, but the Colombo to Europe leg is covered by the 4,181 teu MAERSK MIAMI.
- Maersk Line ‘AE7′ (#8) – void slot ca. 16 October ex Qingdao,but the Tanjung Pelepas to Europe leg is covered by the 5,040 teu MAERSK DUBROVNIK.
- CMA CGM (‘FAL1′), UASC (‘AEC2) (#1691) – void slot 9 October ex Ningbo
- MSC (‘Lion’) (#1736) – void slot 1 October ex Ningbo
- CSCL (‘AEX7′), UASC (‘AEC8′), CMA CGM (‘FAL2′) – void slot ca 9 October ex Ningbo

Note: some carriers will temporarily modify the rotations of services not affected by omissions to provide some coverage of ports otherwise served by loops that drop sailings.
China’s ‘National Day Golden Week’ is an annual three day bank holiday in early October, with the surrounding weekends re-arranged so that workers in Chinese companies always have seven continuous days of holiday. It commonly leads to a one-week shutdown of many major companies, especially in the manufacturing sector. Hence it is usually accompanied by a drop in cargo movement through Chinese ports. A second ‘Golden Week’ holiday is granted in January or February at the occasion of Chinese New Year.
