P3 confirms Lars Mikael Jensen to run joint fleet centre / CSCL said to be looking into joining P3 alliance
SENIOR Maersk Line executive Lars Mikael Jensen has been picked to run the new P3 fleet operations centre.
Maersk Line confirmed to Lloyd’s List that the three P3 partner lines had agreed that Mr Jensen would be appointed chief executive of the joint network centre “if and when regulatory approvals for the P3 Network have been completed”.
Until that point, Mr Jensen “will work on setting up the organisational infrastructure for P3 to ensure it eventually delivers both operational efficiency and independency from the P3 lines”.
Lloyd’s List disclosed this morning that an announcement on Mr Jensen’s appointment was imminent.
The three P3 partners, Maersk, Mediterranean Shipping Co and CMA CGM, agreed a few days ago on Mr Jensen to head up for the new arm’s length company that will be based in London.
The decision was disclosed internally on Tuesday.
Mr Jensen is currently in charge of Maersk’s Asia-Europe trades.
The new centre, which will be in charge of more than 250 vessels deployed in the three main east-west trades, will be kept completely separate from commercial and pricing matters for antitrust reasons.
The partnership between the world’s three largest container lines was announced in June and is scheduled to be up and running by the second quarter of 2014.
Maersk will contribute some 42% of capacity, including its 18,270 teu Triple-E ships, totalling about 1.1m teu.
MSC will supply 34%, or 900,000 teu, of capacity, with CMA CGM vessels accounting for 24%, or 600,000 teu.
