Shipping company MSC (UK) has hailed a successful partnership with healthy lifestyle service Live Well Suffolk to offer a free in-house weight management programme for its employees.

MSC, which employs more than 500 people at its UK head office in Ipswich, launched the 12-week programme earlier this year to help improve the health and wellbeing of staff.
At its conclusion, employees reported improved fitness and knowledge about health and nutrition, and a combined weight-loss of 6st 7lb.
Managing Director Dan Everitt said: “Our employees are at the core of our business and their wellbeing is always high on our agenda. We may be a large company, but this doesn’t mean we’ve lost touch with our staff and their needs. We operate a down-to-earth culture that allows us to keep open communication with our employees and I was so pleased that our workforce felt comfortable to ask for our help with weight management.”
Other health and wellbeing measures undertaken by the company in recent years have included clinics to help with quitting smoking and free NHS health checks for staff aged over 40.
The weight management programme was launched in respose to requests from employees following the previous schemes.
Emma Dinwoodie, HR business partner at MSC (UK), said: “I approached Live Well Suffolk, a service provider we’ve previously used for employee wellbeing activities and I was delighted when they confirmed they could run a programme in conjunction with MSC.”
Rob Ward of Live Well Suffolk, which is commissioned by teh NHS, visited MSC’s office in Ipswich three times a week, delivering one-hour sessions during lunch periods.
Mr Everitt added: “It’s fantastic that we’ve been in a position where the company can support our staff through this programme. It is so rewarding to know that we’ve helped boost the health of our workforce. We will definitely continue with our efforts towards improving the wellbeing of our employee − a great result for us all.”
