Container ship Arnold Maersk reportedly lost containers in Bering sea
Container ship Arnold Maersk reportedly suffered damages in heavy weather en route from Shanghai (Xiaoyangxiang) to Seattle. Most probably, some containers went overboard. 21 containers were reported drifting on Nov 17 13 along the line 51 47N and 53 01N 179 53W, some 60 nautical miles north of Aleutian Islands, Bering sea. Vessel arrived to Seattle on Nov 22 13.

The Port of Seattle workers have a long night ahead of them after learning about a powerful storm at sea damaged some of the shipping containers on board. The ship is currently docked at Terminal 18.
According to Coast Guard officials, the container ship named Arnold Maersk came into port Friday from Busan, Korea. The ship departed Korea on November 12, 2013 and encountered severe weather on the seas.
The crew reported to Coast Guard officials that two days ago 53 containers were damaged and 18 containers were lost overboard in international waters. The ship itself was not damaged.
A storm outside Dutch Harbor, Alaska, toppled dozens of containers on the Arnold Maersk, a huge cargo ship that's now in Seattle to take care of the damage. A big wave that swept over the stern tossed 18 containers overboard and damaged about another 50, said Coast Guard spokeswoman Kathleen McCaffrey. Crews must remove the damaged containers before the ship can move on. The ship itself, which was traveling from Pusan, South Korea, didn't appear to need any repair. Incidents like this aren't uncommon, McCaffrey said, but on average, just five containers end up in the sea. This ship is getting a lot of attention, she said, because it can be seen from Highway 99.
