Almost 200 People Hit by Ship Gas Leak

180 People Seek Treatment after Ship Gas Leak
PEARL RIVER BRIDGE

The Public Health Ministry of Thailand informed that nearly 200 people have been affected by yesterday’s chemical leak at Laem Chabang Port in Chonburi from K Line’s containership Pearl River Bridge, National News Bureau of Thailand said.

Over 100 people, mostly young students, sought treatment for eye and nose irritation, nausea, and headache yesterday after a container fell onto the liquid tank on the Hong Kong-based Pearl River Bridge ship, which caused the flammable chemical Butyl Acrylates to leak at about 10:35am local time.
The cargo ship was ordered to leave Laem Chabang Port immediately and anchor 10 kilometres away from the coast, once the leak was detected, to minimise the impact.
According to the Ministry, the number of those affected by the Butyl Acrylate leakage stands at 180. So far, 35 people still remain hospitalized after the incident.
The incident was followed by an evacuation of all residents in the nearby community.
The container is said to had fallen during unloading.
