Autogate Programme Optimises Liverpool2

After lengthy delays and queues affected drivers at the Port of Liverpool due to a faulty gate system, UK-based port operator Peel Ports’ more than US$28million autogate programme is now an important element in the development of its Liverpool2 Container Terminal, according to the Liverpool Echo.

David Huck, Port Director said: “The cargo owner is paying for that truck and its time. We looked at technology in Asia and the US to see how we could make it a more efficient experience for our customers.”
Caroline Clark, Business and Automation Process Manager at Peel Ports, said: “Drivers go through a gantry with cameras, then go to the gate system where they use their ID card and biometric check.
“Before, we didn’t know when people were coming. That meant we would have surges and we would have to key in all their information.
“Now all information is collected up front so they know when they get here the container has been pre-advised to us.
“The haulier can see his box is on the dock, and where his driver is at any stage in the port.”
It was previously reported that Liverpool2 would be opening late and is now anticipated to be operational by Q1, 2016.
