Norwegian dockers won an important victory in Kristiansand yesterday.

I have been asked to post this by Svein Lundeng  & Dockers Hangarounds on behalf of the Norway Dockers

Port of Kristiansand,Norway.
The port's board decided not to give Nor Lines exclusivity, which would have given them the opportunity to use their own employees in stead of the dockers.
The dock workers won an important victory in Kristiansand yesterday.
The company Nor Lines wanted exclusive jurisdiction on the quayside in Kristiansand in order to use its own employees rather than dockers associated with loading and unloading office in town.
The company claims the regular dockers are too expensive.
The same was also argued from the port chairman Paul Harv from Høyre(Conservative party).
Demonstrations.
The Port Authority was going to process the application from Nor Lines yesterday afternoon.
The dock workers in Kristiansand had invited supporters from across the country to hold a demonstration outside the Kristiansand Port premises. In glorious spring weather nearly 150 protesters lined up to mark their view of exclusive agreements in the ports.
Before the weekend the head of Kristiansand Port and Transport Workers' Union, Roy Hansen, said that he would do what he could to prevent such a decision.
We can not give a monopoly to a private operator on the part of the public wharf in Kristiansand when the goal is only to get rid of us dockers, says Hansen.
He also announced that an exclusivity decision would lead to action on the docks.
- There may be talk of blocking ships or take other actions. What is certain is that we will hold on until the police come, Hansen told local newspaper Fædrelandsvennen.
It was the fear of such actions which were highlighted in the Board meeting as one of the reasons why a majority of the board went against giving Nor Lines exclusivity.
- The risk I'm not willing to take, said Steinar Bergstøl Andersen from Fremskrittspartiet (Progress), according to the local newspaper.

Conservatives and Christian Democrats representatives in the port board was ultimately the only parties that would give Nor Lines exclusivity, while Labour's two representatives, Progress, Democrats and the employee representative voted against.
It pleases Roy Hansen.
- With 5-2 in Port Authority dockers won an important victory. The majority declined to give businesses so-called exclusive license, while two would privatize the port. NHO's campaign against dockers has thus been defeated, he said.
Roy Hansen believes yesterday's decision means the end of exclusivity debate in Kristiansand.
