Container ships (sometimes spelled containerships) are cargo ships that carry all of their load in truck-size intermodal containers, in a technique called containerization. They are a common means of commercial intermodal freight transport and now carry most seagoing non-bulk cargo.

Emma Maersk-Emma Mærsk is the first container ship in theE-class of eight owned by the A. P. Moller-Maersk Group. When launched in 2006 she was the largest container ship ever built, and in 2010 she and her seven sister ships were among the longest container ships. Officially, she is able to carry around 11,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) or 14,770 TEU depending on definition. In May 2010, her sister ship Ebba Mærsk set a record of 15,011 TEU in TangerMed.

9. CMA CGM Marco Polo

CMA CGM Marco Polo is a UK-registeredcontainer ship of the Explorer class owned by the CMA CGM group. On 6 November 2012, it became the largest container ship in the world measured by capacity (16,020 TEU), but was surpassed on 24 February 2013 by the Maersk Triple E 4 class (18,270 TEU), which is 4 metres (13.1 ft) longer at precisely 400m in length. It is named for Venitian merchant and traveller Marco Polo.

8. CMA CGM Vasco De Gama

CMA CGM Vasco de Gama is an Explorer class containership built for CMA CGM. It is named after Portuguese explorer Vasco de Gama. CMA CGM had originally planned to name the ship after Benjamin Franklin. The ship was delivered in July 2015, it is among the world’s largest containerships, at 17,865 TEU.

7. CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin

CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin is an Explorer class containership built for CMA CGM. Delivered in November 2015, she is named after United States Founding Father Benjamin Franklin. She is one of the largest container cargo vessels, capable of carrying 18,000TEU with lenght of 399.2m.

6. Madison Maersk(EEE)

– Madison Maersk is one of the largest very large container vessels (VLCV) in the world. The ship is Maersk Triple E class and was built in 2014 by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea. The ship was ordered together with her sister shipsMagleby Maersk, Maribo Maersk, Marstal Maersk, Matz Maersk and Mayview Maersk. With improved architecture and more. powerful engineering and propulsion system, the 3 ship achieves better dynamic characteristics and lower fuel consumption. The ship has capacity for 18,270 TEU and is accommodated with 1800 reefer plugs.

5. MSC New York

MSC NEW YORK is a container ship built in 2014 and currently sailing under the flag of Panama. MSC NEW YORK has 399m length overall and beam of 54m. Her gross tonnage is 176490 tons and has a capacity of 18270 TEU.

4. Magleby Maersk

Magleby Maersk is Triple E-Class and one of the largest container ships of the world. The vessel was built at the shipyard of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering under the hull number 4255. The vessel owned and managed by the Danish shipowner Ap Moller Maersk, which is the largest operation of container shipping in the world. Magleby Maersk is the largest Maersk Triple E-Class ship and has capacity for 18,270 TEU

Barzan is an ultra large container ship and among the largest container ships in the world (as of July 2015. It is the first of a series of six 18,800 TEU container ships built for United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) in South Korea.[2] According to 2 the builder, it has carbon emissions far lower than the Maersk EEE class container ships

2. CSCL Globe- MV CSCL

Globe is a container ship owned and operated by China Shipping Container Lines(CSCL). The first of a class of five ships intended for Asia-Europe trade routes, she was the largest container ship in the world at the time of her launch in November 2014,with a maximum capacity of 19,100 twentyfoot containers.

The ship was first planned for 18,400 TEU. Upon completion of construction the capacity was 19,224 TEU, including the capacity for 1,800 refrigerated containers. As the deadweight tonnage of the ship is 197,362DWT, she can only carry a full load of containers if each has a mean weight not exceeding 10.2 tonnes. With average 14-tonne containers, the capacity is around 14,000 TEU.
