Marseille: a docker falls 12 meters

The firemen intervened this morning, around 9 am, for a man who had fallen in the Grand Maritime Port of Marseille, at post 45, in the East basins, district Arenc, in the 2nd arrondissement of Marseille.


Quickly arrived at the scene, the rescuers found that the victim who was involved in the loading operations of the ship "Gouraya" had fallen from the top of a container. This container being located at the bottom of the hold of a depth of 12m, the evacuation of the victim, about thirty years, was delicate.


The resources of the Group of Reconnaissance and Intervention in Perilous Environment (GRIMP) were called in reinforcement, in order to extract the victim. They used the means available in the port to evacuate the man through a handling crane, placing it in a specialized stretcher to immobilize it.


The man suffers from pelvic pain following his fall and was quickly transported to the hospital by the rescue.

The operation required 4 engines and 11 firefighters.
